| - GREAT food, bad execution.
Took my girlfriend to Mastro's Ocean Club last night for her birthday. My parents and I had been there for their anniversary last year, and because of some snafus with the service, Mastro's had thoughtfully provided a gift card for a return visit. The gift card was then given to my girlfriend as a sort of re-gift present.
Upon arrival, we were seated immediately, and provided everything we ordered with speed and efficiency. In-all, the food was excellent. Too excellent, as it turned out. After our appetizer and soup course, both of us were pretty much full. She was (with much difficulty) able to finish her steak, whereas I was able to consume about a bite-and-a-half of my bone-in ribeye. We basically didn't touch either of the side-dish that we ordered. Dessert was thoughtfully provided to her, as it was her birthday, again which we touched very little.
Each time our wait staff cleared our table, I informed them clearly that I would be taking whatever remained home with me. That the food was wonderful, but that there was simply too much of it. So imagine my surprise when I went to grab some of the steak and side-dishes for lunch today, only to discover that they weren't there. In fact, with the exception of the dessert, and the remains of one salad, none of our leftovers were sent home with us. Probably a good...$75 wasted.
The food is amazing, but after my parents' issues, and now this, I will probably not be returning to Mastro's again.
