| - Another serendipitous moment in my food and travel finds repertoire.
Walking down one of Montreal's well known streets called Sherbrooke in an area termed the "Golden Square Mile", I was handed a well put together menu like flyer. I discovered shortly thereafter that this was no restaurant or ordinary quick-mart. Located in a former art gallery and under a highend cigar shop the brand new Latina Gourmet Store fits in seamlessly. Whether it be before or after a visit to the Musée des Beaux Arts or Holt Renfrew or even classes at McGill or Concordia Universities (well situated near both and they are promoting a 10% student special).
Let's not kid ourselves this is a high end gourmet grocery store. When meat is aged 40 days and items are placed with surgical perfection you can't expect to have a "depanneur" experience (or pay the same prices).
This place is an experience and real pleasure to walk through. I plan on doing so again soon. Speaking of fine arts museums, this store suits that genre, for the art of food display. Fresh, clean and proper are all apparent understatements.
At quick run through they have a compact yet excellent looking fresh baked goods area, coffee and tea section, cheeses, veggies, canned and boxed items, said aged meat counter, a cool looking wine display, dairy, seafood and on an on.
I'll give you a better run down of what they carry when I return. The space is not huge, but since the ceilings are high it all fits cozily (yet the air is fresh and cool enough that a sweater is requisite if staying longer than for a coffee and 'pain au chocolat'.
Their grand opening wine and cheese starts at 5:30pm September 18th, 2014
