| - Came here with my wife for Valentine's Day. Been a local for 7 years, but my first time coming to the Stratosphere. The view was amazing, although fixating on the fact that you're constantly spinning can definitely lead to some nausea.
They had a tasting menu for Valentine's, but honestly there wasn't even a single thing on any of the courses that stood out to either of us. There were plenty of things on the menu that looked quite nice, so we created our own tasting menu that ended up at the same price ($200).
We started with the wedge salad, caesar salad with anchovies, shrimp cocktail and seared scallops. All were good, although certainly had better. Would happily have any of them again.
As for the main course, the waiter hyped up their "signature dish" of the wagyu ribeye. This is exactly what I would be looking to order just about anywhere and sounded fantastic. It was priced at $79, which sounded quite cheap for what it was supposed to be We complimented it with the seafood alfredo pasta dish and would continue to share.
The wagyu was served similar to what you would expect from Salisbury steak. It was smothered with onions on top and the entire plate was covered in sauce. This was certainly a bizarre presentation for what was supposed to be a high quality piece of meat.
That said, I don't think what they serve is actually wagyu. This is one of the lowest quality steaks I have ever eaten. If I were offered the same meal at any point in the future for $5, I would absolutely turn it down. There was no flavor. There was no marbling. There was tons of fat, but not in the way you would want in a high quality piece of meat. I don't fancy myself much of a grill master, but the choice steaks I get from Walmart are without a doubt far higher quality. And it wasn't like it just wasn't cooked well, it was legitimately a bad piece of meat. We couldn't even force it down and didn't box it up.
Whatever you do, please don't order this horrible dish. It is truly a steak that late night diners would be embarrassed to serve.
The pasta was pretty good, although certainly different from what you would expect from an alfredo pasta. The seafood in the dish was of decent quality and cooked well.
The service was also severely lacking. We waited for over 20 minutes to get water after our entrees arrived. This was not aided by the fact that one of our entrees was completely inedible.
The waiter and manager both acted shocked that we thought the steak was terrible, but after looking at yelp reviews while sitting at the table for an hour waiting to actually be able to pay our bill and leave, we found out that most people have thought this dish is horrible. Big mistake not yelping first! The manager offered to comp us a dessert, but we had already been there 2 hours and just wanted to leave so badly (it was after midnight at this point). We ended up getting it boxed to go, but the cheesecake mousse was still good the next day.
I feel like we were robbed of the $79 they charged for the inedible steak and the bad service made this an experience that will not have us ever returning to this restaurant (very surprised they didn't offer to take anything off the bill for serving trash). That said, if you do end up here, go with the seafood and dodge the steak and you should have a nice meal.
