  • I saw Macklemore in concert on Jan. 9 and was impressed with Comerica Theater. It was my first time there, and I had prepaid for parking with my ticket purchase. The parking was at the Adams Street Garage (which was weird to find, but basically you head east on Adams St. from 5th Ave. and the entrance is on the left just before 4th Ave.). I recommend getting parking here because it's super easy to walk across the street to Comerica. Since I had preassigned seating and the parking, I didn't get there til around 7:20, with the concert set to start at 8pm. Things worked out perfectly, timewise. Once I got to the theater, it was confusing outside at first, with tons of people milling around and trying to figure out where the line started (it wrapped 4 times back and forth across the sidewalk with no signage). But the line moved quite quickly, and at the entrance there were 6 lines for security to check purses (a quick flashlight shined into my handbag) and scan tickets. I was surprised at how quickly I got inside. The signage really does need to be improved inside too, because I couldn't figure out where to go at first to find my section. But I found my seat with the help of ushers outside the doors, and I was pleased to find that the seats were reasonably comfortable. It was one of the safest venues I've ever been to, with security everywhere but without intruding, which is important as I was a single, female attendee. The a/c was also working great, because even with five thousand people jumping and screaming all night, I didn't feel warm at all. There were plenty of places to get a drink, including a stand in the General Admission area, and there were also hawkers walking up and down aisle offering beer for sale. This was really helpful, because first, who wants to leave a concert for a drink, and second, who wants to flatten themselves every time someone in their row needs to squeeze past to get out? The concert itself was well-executed and the sound quality was great. My seat was right behind gen ad, but the sections are elevated, so even though I'm only 5'3", I had a great view without having to slum it with the mob in front of me. While the decor inside is pretty generic and characterless, I was willing to sacrifice that to have a safe, pleasant, and crazy concert experience. I'm looking forward to returning.
