| - You should know that Herz, Dollar and Thrifty are the same company in spite of the three different desks. They are pretty much equally bad here at MKE, but better than the competition. Lines are often long and slow, worse when there's a Hotwire deal. Don't use Expedia-Travelocity, they often screw up your reservation. No matter how long the line is, they will give you a hard upsell spiel for insurance you don't need (always check with your credit card company first, you're probably covered by both your credit card and your regular car insurance, and the rental car additional daily coverage is terrible), and very overpriced options like satellite radio and tollway transponder. They can't give good directions if you're from out of town, the area is easy to figure out, set your phone to Google Maps for directions before you roll. Take a PIC of any damage to your car before taking it out, or if you have time, demand on that isn't damaged. It doesn't matter how small the damage is. Don't buy their gas, bring it back full, there are reasonably priced gasoline stations very near the airport on Howell, Layton, and College. Don't try to make any adjustments to a reservation deal you made via Hotwire, in the course of being "helpful," if you extend or shorten your reservation they will find a way to charge you more at the desk. For example, if you had a good weekend deal and then because your plans change you need the car for more days, if you make the adjustment at the desk you will find you've walked away with a new weekly rate, much higher than the two weekend days and two weekday days (happened to me when I was distracted by a funeral situation). But still, better than Enterprise-Alamo-National or Avis-Budget-Zipcar-Payless at MKE, there are only three companies on location.
