| - My trailer wheel starts squeaking pretty bad and figured out that the bearings needed repacked and greased. I tried calling around and got estimates ranging from $60-$300 to have it fixed. I stopped by a big o down the street and was told to pull around back and that they would send someone out to look at my wheel. After waiting for about 20 minutes I called this big o (on centennial) and was told I could be helped immediately. I also came to this big o because they quoted me $30 per wheel compared to the big o I was waiting at which said it would be an hour of labor and some change. I felt like $30 a wheel was a great price! I explained that I needed to be on my way to California as soon as possible and they were pretty accommodating on being as timely as possible. They asked me to pull my trailer behind the shop and said I had to disconnect it. I did, despite the fact that it was a hassle to try and do myself (as they said they were too busy to help me hook it back up when the time
Came to reconnect to the trailer). I left the trailer there and went over to discount tire to get my spare replaced, since discount quoted me approximately $35 less for a similar tire. About 25 minutes later I returned and was waiting in the parking lot in my vehicle about 15 minutes wondering why they weren't working on my trailer wheels, when one of the mechanics came out and said it was done. I was pleased to hear that, as they quoted me 30-45 minutes per tire! When I walked up to the trailer I noticed a set of gloves on the ground and saw evidence of new grease around the cap. I couldn't believe they finished it so quickly and started asking if there were any issues getting the wheels off to repack the bearings. They said they did not remove the wheels, even though when I originally talked with Sergio it was discussed that they would have to remove each wheel. I have repacked and greased trailer axle bearings before and I know of no other way to repack bearings than to remove the wheels. The older gentleman with the mustache (that didn't appear to be doing anything useful the entire time I was there except chatting with customers about random things) told me they had a special grease gun tool that made it so they didn't have to remove the wheels to repack and grease the bearings. I started to become more skeptical about my visit here when he said that. I paid the $60 and noted that the receipt said they repacked the bearings. I hooked up the trailer (alone) and pulled out and what do I hear?!? The squeaking noise from my left bearing (the entire reason I brought it in)!! After doing some research and talking with a handful of other mechanics it is apparent that there is no such tool for a standard trailer axle that can repack and grease bearings without removing the wheel. It is apparent that they wanted me to leave the trailer so they could squirt some grease in the hub and say they fixed my trailer wheel. To be charged $60 for some grease in an axle is highway robbery but the biggest issue is that I was lied to about a service that was performed. That is a huge no go in my book and it should be addressed. I already had a long and difficult day and needed to be in California as soon as possible, in order to make a deadline and decided I did not have time to hash it out with the crew there. I said a prayer and drove to California with a squeaking, bad bearing and made it without issue. I do not recommend this place and will not go there again, when I move to Vegas in a few weeks! Even if they made the situation right, which would be to refund me part of the money for only doing part of the Job, I would likely not go here again because I can't place 100% trust in the people I dealt with. Discount tire, right down the street had me sold with their speedy service, courteous treatment and low prices. In a nutshell, big o had:
-fairly quick service (1 star)
- friendly, especially over the phone and when I didn't ask questions about their work (1 star)
- dishonest in their services (-3 stars)
Because I asked pretty specific questions about the job they were to perform and even received a bill that said they performed that job for the agreed price I expect the job to be executed accordingly. When I am told by the guy checking me out that they did not perform the service the way that was agreed and expected (or in this case correctly) then something needs to be fixed. I hope this helps someone avoid a dishonest mechanic shop.
