| - We were desperate. It was the week we were supposed to be moving into our new Vegas apartment, and our moving company had overpromised and WAY underdelivered, so that none of our stuff was here when it was supposed to be...INCLUDING BEDS. So we had a place...with nothing in it. Worse still, the hotel where we were staying wouldn't allow us to extend our stay by a few more days, due to being overbooked for a 'special event' taking place that weekend.
So we did the only thing we could do: booked a room at Red Rock for that Thursday, and tried to find another hotel for the day before...with no success! And we only found out after the fact that we couldn't cancel our Red Rock rez, without losing the total cost of the room. So in the end, we were able to make other arrangements that allowed us to sleep in our new place on the Wednesday night, and we decided to keep our room at Red Rock and stay there the following evening.
As far as life handing us lemons, that Thursday was the best "damn glass of lemonade" you could ever want!
We were on the twelfth floor. The room was quite a schlep for me from the elevators, since I'm disabled and walk with a cane. However, as impressed as we were by the opulence of the main lobby, NOTHING prepared us for the room itself! Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. Light, airy, roomy, with two big beds and the nicest pillows and sheets I'd encountered in a while. BIG bathroom with a large shower, separate toilet enclosure, and the biggest plus I could've wished for: a Roman-style tub that I could stretch all 6'3" of me out in COMFORTABLY, with a TV set mounted in the wall above the tub.
The view was spectacular from our picture window, giving us the complete panorama of The Strip, all the way out towards Henderson. After the ridiculous amount of stress from our moving woes, this was like entering Xanadu.
We'd spent time at the Red Rock's casino before, and had dinner at one of the wonderful restaurants, but this night was about relaxing, NOT gambling or shopping or anything else. We stayed in the room for the rest of the day, ordered rock-star quality room service, and just enjoyed the breathtaking view as dusk settled in and The Strip lit up.
I'd never been sorrier to leave a place than I was the next morning, when we packed up and headed out. A stay at a place like Red Rock is not something we'd normally do in our travels, but as a 'stay-cation' or for a special occasion, now that we're locals, I wouldn't consider any other off-Strip hotel ever again. Can't wait for the opportunity to come back and stay longer next time!
