| - I have been going to Don Jose for as long as I can remember, so like everyone else I was devastated when I found out they were closing. I had mixed emotions when I found out that they would be reopening under new management. Would the food be the same? Would the service be as good or better?
Since Don Jose reopened we make it a point to go for lunch or dinner at least a few times a month if not more. The owner is awesome, super friendly walks around and talks to everyone. He always makes us feel welcome and takes time to BS with my boyfriend about things they have in common.
The food is great!! Simple, cheap, but great. The service is amazing we never get bad service, EVER!!
To address things some others have said:
The building: Is it some fancy, typical Mexican decor you get at chain restaurants? No, that doesn't mean it's a nasty run down place.
Cash only: Don Jose has ALWAYS been cash only, if you read reviews before you go you would know that. They did provide an ATM, which like any other ATM that is not your banks charges a fee. (Oh well) The whole point behind cash only is to keep the prices of your food down. Have you ever owned or operated a business? Do you know how much credit card processing can cost? I am perfectly content making sure I have cash on hand when we go.
The food: Is great!! We each get a cheese crisp to start, my boyfriend normally gets 2 shredded beef tacos. And I get one chicken taco. My boyfriend absolutely loves their tacos, never dry always flavorful, never disappointed. The chicken tacos come with a jalapeno cream cheese, which I do not care for so I ask for the taco with just chicken, cheese, and lettuce. Not once in my time coming to Don Jose has my order ever been wrong, cold, bland, or bad.
The service: We are the in and out type of eaters. The staff knows us well and caters to us very well. Our drinks are never empty, the salsa is never empty, and the food is always brought out promptly with a smile.
Maybe we are experiencing a different place then some of those on here that have had horrible experiences. Or maybe it is because we are polite to others and they return the common courtesy they have been extended.
Either way we love Don Jose, the food, the staff, the whole experience. And we will continue to give our money to the small independent companies that help stimulate our local community.
Keep up the great work guys!! See you again soon!
