Maple Yip is a holdover insituation from an almost by-gone era. They serve tradiational Cantonese dishes in the same quantity and quality as expected from almost a decade ago. Even stepping into this restaurant brings me back to when I was a kid and following my parents into Cantonese restaurants for family dinners.
It's obviously very popular among the local Chinese crowd. The food is well made with plenty of 'wok air', comes to the table piping hot and with plenty to go around the table. We had the 'three strand' noodles and my mom said it tasted like what she use to eat as a child. That is high praise!!
I can understand the comments about service, as they still hold the brash fast-paced efficient attitude typical of HK restaurants. Not really a place to be coddled or have things explained (especially if you don't speak chinese).
