  • PROS -Afterburn! You'll feel the burn during the class, but it's that sweet, sweet burn afterwards that is just so good. According to their website, their "high-intensity workout is scientifically designed to keep heart rates in a target zone that spikes metabolism and boosts your energy". And it sure does. They track heart rate using a variety of Orangetheory devices (I wear a band on my arm, but I think there is something that can go across your chest too) and during the class, you can see your heart rate projected on the screen so you can ensure you are in the right zone (blue, green, orange, red). -Combo cardio & strength. I tend to do a lot of cardio-focused (like spinning) and avoid strength training. However, the OTF classes are set up so you get a healthy mix of both. Half the class is on the treadmills/rowing machines and the other half is strength training using a mix of free weights, body weight, TRX, and (new) bands. -Convenient location(s). The one downtown is pretty central and it's easy to get to if you work or live downtown. Just be sure to check if there are any sporting events or concerts, as that may affect the parking and traffic situation. And if the one downtown is not a good location for you, there are OTFs across the country and your membership works at all of them (have not tried this yet so cannot attest to this). CONS -First class can be overwhelming. As a newbie to OTF, I was a little overwhelmed by the first class or two. There's a lot of directions being thrown at you and everything is pretty well timed out, so at times, it may feel like you are behind (but like anything, you should go at your own pace and do what's best for you!). -Steep prices (if you pay per class). I'm not sure if prices are the same throughout the country so I don't want to post them here, but I had some sticker shock when I saw the price per class. Monthly memberships are a little bit more reasonable (and they will definitely encourage this after your first class). You also have to purchase (or rent?) the device to monitor your heart rate. -Towels. Perhaps my biggest gripe...they do not provide towels. I'm sure this seems petty, but of all the group exercise studios I go to, this is the only one that does not provide towels! BOTTOM LINE -Spend an hour sweating it out so you can feel that burn, baby, burn for much longer after.
