  • Checked out Friday Night Live on the weekend and had a decent time. I haven't been to the ROM since their big renovation so I was very eager to see the changes and the dino exhibit. As we entered, bouncers were eager to check ID for this 19+ event. A DJ blasted some very dated dance hits in the atrium area. It gave the ROM a very clubby feel but it was pretty loud, which was probably my least favourite part about the event. The music could be heard faintly throughout the rest of the ROMs exhibits on different floors and as the night went on, patrons did start filling up the dance floor. Food and drink stations were available throughout the first floor area. Booze prices ($6 for beer, wine and mixed drinks, $2 for pop but you only get less than 1/2 a pop in a small plastic cup filled to the top with ice). Food prices (waffles for $3, Jamie Kennedy frites and sandwiches from Fidel Gastro for $5). The food and drink stations did not take cash. You had to convert your cash to ROM Bucks ($1 = 1 ROM Buck) at the entrance which was kinda annoying and gimmicky. We only got around to the Asian history exhibit, dinos and bat cave area before it was announced that all the galleries closed at 9:30pm at which point, everyone was funnelled back into the hall on the first floor, which was open 'til 11pm. An interesting event and worth attending if you haven't been to the ROM in awhile. Definitely a smart move on the part of the ROM to get bodies through the doors on a Friday night.
