  • So, I needed new running shoes. I was recommended by friends of mine whom lived in Phoenix/ Scottsdale to check this place out. This place reminded me of Foot Locker or Champs Sports. Or even Sports Authority. Lots of shoes and gear for y'all. I knew what I wanted and definitely wanted to try similar shoes in the same category, but different brands, just to see if there can be something better to be found. I ended up trying a few pairs of shoes in the Saucony, Asics, and even Mizuno's, but was not committed to buy. I could not find the right type of shoe that would cater to the long distance training that is required of me to put out week after week, most of the time in different cities and states on any given weekend. Oh, the life of a marathon maniac and a 50 states marathon runner, for sure. Google that, we are certainly out there! And so, this trip to the Roadrunner Sports store in Scottsdale Arizona was a lesson is comparing shoes and what's out there for me. I did like the service here. While they seemed to meander around the store like some do at Sports Authority, I'm sure that they knew their stuff. Unfortunately, they didn't ask me how much I run or what distance you're training for, nor did a foot measurement, etc. To be honest, this place seemed like a miniature version of Sports Authority, but as a specialty running store. While they do have the inventory and merchandise to sell to eager marathoners and first time people getting off the couch, they sell to all sorts of people and walks of life. Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned runner, these folks at Road Runner Sports can get you fitted in your choice of shoe and gear. You are reminded that the prices here are 20% higher than that of other places and of online shopping. Keep in mind that you can get the product now at the store, versus 3-5 business days, even more depending on shipping and business handling time. You can be out running in them that very day instead of waiting a week or more. For me, it came down to cost and would want to order from Road Runner online to support them. This Road Runner Sports outlet is located at 7077 E Mayo Street in Phoenix AZ at The Shops at Chauncey Ranch. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. Since they are located at a strip mall, there is plenty of parking here, depending on when you get here to shop. I did like the fact that this store is well equipped to handle each person, whether or not they were just beginning to the hardcore veteran. Road Runner Sports is a clean and well maintained facility that caters to everyone and anyone wanting to get into distance training and endurance. Doesn't matter what you can do at the moment, running and endurance training is for anyone and everyone who puts the time and effort into it. As with life and everything, practice makes perfect! Or so they say! The overall experience at this Road Runner Sports location was as decent as you can possibly get. I do love getting into new shoes as the next marathoner would tell you, but cost is a driver for many people. Cheaper doesn't necessarily mean better, but it does help the pocket book! I must have spent about 1/2 hour or so trying out shoes to no avail. I'm glad that I asked about the cost, so I didn't get sticker shocked at the register. I'll shop online at Road Runner Sports to snag a nice deal while supporting the local running store. 4 stars for the location, 5 stars for supporting running and runners, 4.0 stars for the service. 3.0 stars for the overall experience. It's a shoe store. You just need to try em all on! Support local! B
