  • I am not the world's best golfer, and I rarely get out to play much anymore. However, my scratch golfing uncle was in town for the weekend and wanted to golf somewhere nice, a few of his friends told him about Paiute, and he got us a tee time. I'm going to list my complaints first (very few) Location- It's in the middle of nowhere, and it a bit of a pain in the ass to get to Weather- They have no control about this but it was cold and windy (personal bitching not their fault) Now for the good things Staff- Their staff was amazing, from the bag drop attendant to the bartenders everyone was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure you had a great time. Bonus points to the guys in the proshop who were not only extremely friendly but after finding out that I was a local and worked in the casino industry they hooked me up with a kick ass special rate. Food- We arrived early for our tee time (the weather was a little too ugly to hit the range), as we were talking they guys told us they had a breakfast buffet we could have before we hit the course, the buffet wasn't huge, but did have some of the best sausage I've had in a while, some other traditional breakfast fare, and a made to order omelet bar. The snack bar on the turn had good hotdogs, the drink cart was well stocked, and everything was pretty cheap. (some courses jack up the food and drink prices but theirs were relatively cheap). The courses- They have 3 courses. All 3 are Pete Dye designed, we played Sun Mountian, which is a nice combo of desert style golf with some water and plenty of hills. The rest of the group stayed and played the Wolf course in the afternoon, they said it was insanely challenging and required some tricky shot planning. The Facilities- They have a nice proshop that also houses a bar and a dining area, they have 2 driving ranges as well as a few chipping areas and practice putting greens. The bag drop is nice, my only gripe is they didn't have valet, but there is a plethora of parking so it wasn't a big deal. The Carts- They are electric and may lack some get up and go, but they have coolers attached, as well as on cart GPS. If you haven't played on a cart with GPS, it's amazing. It gives you distance to key points on the hole. There is a handly screen by your clubs that displays the distance to the pin and how your group is doing v/s recommended time. You can also contact the pro shop from the cart if you have any issues. I've played a few courses that had GPS on the carts, Paiutes were some of the best I've seen. The Location- Yes I did complain that it is in the middle of no where, but once you get out there it's absolutely amazing. There is nothing around the courses for miles, all you see is golf courses, desert, and mountains (well and the occasional apache or bomber flying to nellis). I have played some breath taking courses, and while Paiute isn't on the top of the list, it's in the top few. I'll end my review with a few tips... If you are a local ask if they have any discounts, I saved almost 50% off the rate my uncle had booked. If you are a tourist, rent a car for the day before you head out, it's a pretty long trek and as far as I know they don't have a shuttle service, renting a car will be much cheaper than taking a car service or taxi out. Play early, we were the first group off, and the course got busier as the day went, plus the breakfast is a can't miss.
