I've been a patient at Scottsdale ENT for several years now. During that time I have suffered constantly with cronic sinusitis and a perforated septum. I worked predominintly with Julie Kramer, Dr Hieland's PA. She is a great person and a competent professional. I was told by Dr Hieland that I would have to wait and see if the perforation would heal before he could offer a surgical solution. I waited and waited for over a year. He finally agreed to close the hole surgically and I found the time to do it in April 2018. I had to plan that time off a month in advance. I did so and took two weeks off work in order to have sufficient recovery time. Three weeks before the surgery, Cami the office manager called me to get a $500 deposit ahead of the proceedure. I informed her that I thought this was highly unusual as my Aetna Insurance plan covered the proceedure and I had a $100 copay due at the time of service. I told her I could do the deposit, but wanted to wait until the credit card billing cycle closed at the end of March before charging the $500. She became upset and stated if I did not pay now, the surgery would be cancelled. I stood my ground and called her back on April 2nd. She informed me the surgery had in fact been scrubbed. First, I want to say that this office is NOT the best in Scottsdale as claimed. I had been to others that had better availability, do not charge $40 copay for seeing the PA, which should cost $25 per Aetna, and also value your time with prompt appointment scheduling and on time performance on the day of your appointment. I can't even get to a cogent understanding of why Cami treated me so badly with regard to forcing me to pay up in advance or have my surgery arbitrarily cancelled. I've never dealt with anyone so completely unprofessional. Think twice before using this office. This is not the kind of treatment anyone should ever endure. I lost two weeks pay on the cancellation. Dr Hieland's claims of "Top Doctor" status are highly exaggerated. His demeanor is simply poor. Further, I've suffered far too long with cronic sinusitis and the perforation. Now this incident... Oye.
