| - I STRONGLY BELIEVE I WAS CLOSE TO BEING SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY A BECK TAXI DRIVER HAD I NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION.
On early Sunday, July 19th, around 2am, I left Muzik nightclub and was put in a Beck taxi by my friend. My friend told the cab driver where to go - Cityplace - and prepaid him, which was a mistake.
I was drunk but being a naturally paranoid person, I was watching where he was driving. He took me to British Columbia Rd and Lakeshore West. I asked him why he wasn't in the right lane to go onto Gardiner Expressway EAST (I live by CN Tower and he was driving away from it). He kept saying it was closed and that I was drunk. I was drunk but I KNOW where I live and I saw other cars turning right onto the Gardiner. When I kept demanding him to turn right otherwise I am stepping out, he refused and kept saying I was drunk and to "trust him". Luckily, it was a red light and I dashed out the cab before the night became a nightmare. He screamed at me, called me drunk and must have radio'd all the other cabs to not pick me up because no one else would stop for me after. As a born and raised Torontonian, I have used taxi services many, many times and never got denied road instructions given to my taxi driver - they have to follow what I tell them. I felt extremely frustrated because I felt my life was in danger and I only did what I did to save myself.
I called my friends panicking - they came to pick me up immediately. They arrived and turned right onto Gardiner Expressway East to take me home and that confirmed my suspicions that I was in a corrupt cab. Gardiner Expressway East was NOT closed. This cab driver wanted to take me WEST - the only conclusion is he wanted to take me somewhere secluded and take advantage of my state. I am extremely traumatized by this experience and have been feeling devastated that I was almost victimized. Extremely disgusted now and I have lost any trust in taxi companies. I wish I took down this cab's driver's license or cab number but all I could think of was getting out of his cab and being in the public's view so that I couldn't be taken by him. .
WHY WAS HE GOING WEST AT ALL?! If you know where Muzik nightclub is in relation to Cityplace, he could have gone East from the start. He did NOT need to go West AT ALL. Please googlemap Muzik to Cityplace (my home) vs Muzik to Lakeshore West and British Columbia Rd (where he took me). He was definitely trying to drive me away from home.
Extremely, extremely devastated that my life was at risk. I believe I saved myself but who knows if he'll do this to someone else - I'm really concerned and really wish I took down some kind of identification. Please everyone, be very cautious of where your cab driver is driving otherwise don't ride a taxi alone if you're in a bad state - I've learned my lesson.
