The 40th Street Café is hidden away in a small strip center. It's definitely worth finding. A breakfast and lunch spot, the café has some of the friendliest servers around. They always recognize us and inquire if anyone in our party is missing - and we only eat here once or twice a month these days.
The café is small. You'll get to know those dining around you whether you want to or not. Look for a refrigerator case on your left at the back of the dining room. That's where you'll find a chalk board with specials posted. Great specials available during weekdays in particular. The kids meals are really inexpensive, as well, and your children will be rewarded with a free chocolate chip cookie on a stick at the end of the meal (with your permission of course).
If you arrive at a busy time (Saturday and Sunday mornings), write your name on the waiting list posted outside on a column. There are a few outdoor tables, but this is not a dog friendly establishment. There's a dog groomer and veterinarian next door... so the café gets a pass on this policy.
You may especially like it here if you are from the Midwest. I know my husband loves the 40th Street Café for that reason. The café has a pleasant small town feel, great baked goods and a classic menu. It's a wonderful place to go and escape when city life gets a bit too hectic.
