  • What a great weekend with friends! Even though we're avid outdoors people, the previous reviews about garbage, smell, and general filth had me and my husband concerned. Maybe those people were in some sewage creek somewhere else because that was not our experience at all! We were a group of 4 middle aged, married couples. There weren't many like us there (mostly youngers!) but that didn't stop us from having a good time. There were some children, but mostly college to late 20's, but no one behaving badly where a parent would have to worry about nudity or other debauchery, although their "Mardi Gras" float was coming up the following weekend; I'm sure that's a different story! It was a Saturday, but not too busy. The parking lot was almost half full, the lines for the tubes & buses were acceptable, the tubes in good condition. The beaches were clean, and except for the occasional stray marshmallow, there were not any foreign objects in the water. The water flow was perfect, it took us three hours to go from point 1 to 4, and none of us got sun burned (on a 105° day). We saw the wild horses as mentioned in previous reviews, so that was a treat. I brought a sheet but didn't really need it; splashing water on the tube was sufficient to keep it cool. Tying our tubes together really made the experience, and the "rapids" were hardly more than a quick burst of current where you just needed to make sure your ice chest didn't tip over. Our friend, who is a non-swimmer, wore her life jacket had a great time (I'm sure the vodka shots at the hotel helped). Only bad thing that happened was one of the guys lost his wedding ring at the very end of the run when we were getting out of the river. Ooops! We've tubed the Verde River near Sedona, and Kern River in California. We will definitely tube Salt River again.
