| - What was once a distinguished, amazing hospital has turned into a filthy, unorganized hospital with rude staff and MDs who could care less about patient safety or satisfaction.
My sister who is a deaf and complex cardiac patient in heart failure was admitted Wednesday. While in the emergency room waiting for a bed, the completely inappropriate ED supervisor tried to put my sister in the hallway exposed to flu and other viruses/bacteria. When we refused to be moved into a hallway the supervisor proceeded to let me know it was his third night in a row on....not sure what this had to do with my sisters condition. He then stated that there were 12 people waiting to be seen. I was just in the lobby and saw three people there waiting. No apologies were given for his tone/attitude regarding the situation. She's deaf, in heart failure, and mentally delayed. She has to have a family member with her at all times.
She was admitted to 4C, which I was very familiar with being a former employee. Again, this hospital used to be clean, organized and up to date. When we got to the 4th floor I was beyond disgusted by the condition, smell, and filth of the unit.
The nurse was informed that my sister would NEVER be left alone. Family would always be present.
She was there for 24 hours and no bedside table was brought to her room. My mom asked for a recliner and was immediately told none were available (nurse never even made an effort to find one). Perhaps the bedside table and recliner were hanging out together. My sister was taken off of all of her meds which was understandable considering her condition but no heart monitor was placed on her. When we asked the nurse she looked into it and found the order was missed. She was there greater than 24hrs with no monitor. I know the nurse signs off in the order and typically there's a 12/24 hour chart check done so it was missed more than once...unacceptable!
She finally got a bedside table and a day nurse had my sisters room changed so my mother was able to sleep at her bedside, which was much appreciated.
Dr Ho the hospitalist was reviewing labs with my mother who also happens to be a nurse when my mom tried to explain that the elevated value was typically where my sister is normally she told my mom to "be quiet". Perhaps Dr. Ho needs to learn some respect for elders as well as some manners as she could've stated it a bit differently.
The GI pa for Dr. Thosani was no better. My mom
explained to her that my sisters cardiologist wanted to be on the phone and speak to her during rounds and she refused saying "I'm not going to talk to him".
I'm appalled, disappointed, and disgusted with Honor Health.
This isn't the first time I've had issues with Honor health. My mother was a patient 9 months ago and was supposed to receive a critical medication for her blood disorder before her surgery and it was not given. Me being a nurse even called her surgeons office to be sure it was ordered for the surgery. She too had a horrible stay. Error after error was made forcing me to stay at her bedside and question everything.
I used to love this hospital. I worked there and was proud to. In the last few years it has dramatically changed. I will avoid that facility for future treatments/procedures.
