  • Earlier this month, my longest-serving student organized a team event. We voted and decided to take a cruise for a couple of hours on a tall ship. She booked everything online, which also included lunch. The Web site also indicated where the best places were for parking. I decided to park in lot P2, which is closest to the pier. I called beforehand to ask about parking rates. The parking machines accept Visa, MasterCard, and cash (specifically, loonies and twoonies). I was also advised that there is a change machine that can break your bill denominations. It would be $18 to park from when I expected to be there at 11:00 till 18:00. For me, I am wondering why I still have an American Express card. It's useless to park at this lot! Instead, I brought change and paid for my parking. You need to leave your parking ticket on your car's dashboard. I met my colleagues in front of our tall ship named Kajama. My colleague transporting all three of my students made it just in time for boarding. I got there about twenty minutes before meeting everyone, which allowed me to figure out where everything was. I ended up guiding folks to the nearest washrooms and the coffee shop a few steps away. When we boarded, we got a group photo taken. Most of the staff are summer students. This student took our photo with a DSLR camera. Cool! We all sat around and chatted. We got safety instructions before we started to sail. The tour is two hours in length. We ended up ordering our lunch. It was fun to look at the Toronto skyline from a different perspective. I loved seeing our airport by the island and our skyline from Lake Ontario. My manager participated in raising and lowering the sails. He was hyper, tired afterwards, but happy. I had a lot of fun soaking up some vitamin D, laughing, and chatting with everyone. One of my colleagues bought our team photo for $25. He ended up scanning the photo at home and sharing it with the rest of us, to save us all some money! I would recommend going on this cruise if you'd like to relax and see Toronto in a different light. There was a donation bucket just before you leave the ship. You can make any donation that you see fit. Since they are students, I couldn't help but donate. I work with students and was one. I know how hard they work. (180)
