| - Cure was definitely a destination restaurant for us when we knew that we were traveling to Pittsburgh, and I'm so glad that we were able to get a table.
I started off my meal with the Bourbon cocktail (bourbon (obvi.) pinot noir / quince / orange blossom), which got me started off on the right foot to be wowed.
We shared for the table:
Bread & Butter - a kind of unremarkable focaccia that was handy to have around as no other bread was provided
Heirloom Tomatoes - a real show stopper, the cucumber yogurt, falafel crumble, and mint foam were tasty and beautifully presented
Small Salumi plate - nduja, duck speck (the best), sopressatta, and duck rillettes
I looked over at others' tables and was jealous of their large salumi plates - the 4 that we had were pretty good, but I bet the full selection would have been off the hook.
For my entree, I had the La Bella Farm Duck, which was both beautiful and tasty. The breast was cooked perfectly, and the duck confit pancake was not at all what I would have expected, but it was really great. The blueberry, turnip, swiss chard, and smoked baby beets rounded off the dish perfectly. My fellow diners also enjoyed the pork belly, which was awesome with the kimchi and runny egg which, quite frankly, made it taste like the perfect plate of delicious breakfast.
The atmosphere was relaxed and charming. If I lived in town, I think Cure would be a great place for a date or a special occasion.
