  • April/May 2011 Back in December, when gift-giving ideas were especially welcome, I fell for Physician Laser Centers' groupon deal of $99 for a session of VelaShape Laser treatments. I bought two certificates thinking I'd gift them to my Mom. She ended up not wanting to use them, so I decided to try the treatments myself. VelaShape laser treatments are supposed to be most effective when one goes for the full five-treatment process, but I thought I'd try two treatments and see how they go. I didn't care for the representatives at the desk that checked me in, esp. the blonde, straight-haired woman who wouldn't make eye contact (on ALL my visits)-- I also had the misfortune of hearing her complain on her cellphone w/ a merchant about a charge made on her credit card that first visit, while I was waiting for someone to greet me at the desk. Michael, who did the treatments on me, was very personable. When he saw the area I wanted work done, he asked what I wanted to do, and I said to get rid of the flab in my ab area. He said something to the effect that I didn't have much to get rid of, and then proceeded w/ the treatment. The two-part process included a tool that applied a lot of heat in short bursts that would end w/ one that was almost too painful to endure, and then he'd move to another area- most of the bursts would feel like hot pinches. I ended up doing a total of three treatments (paying another $99 for the third), had burn marks from the last two, and still did not see any improvements. Michael mentioned how I won't see much reduction since I'm smaller than the average patient he sees at the clinic- that larger patients see results faster (??), and that full benefits won't be seen until after four of five treatments. My reply to those statements were that since I didn't have much to get rid of, shouldn't it take less than five treatments then to see any results? So please learn from my vain attempts to keep aging and laziness from taking over my body and stay away from expensive VelaShape laser treatments that do not work. (These treatments were offered at 75% off.) I could've stayed mum and not have you know about my foolishness ("a fool and his money are soon parted" definitely applies here, doesn't it?), but I'd rather admit to it and cry in shame in hopes to help a few of you decide against trying this treatment! Use your money instead and enroll in a gym, or buy a few exercise DVDs and exercise in the comfort of your own living room! [I've gone back to running on the treadmill again, after my broken toe healed, so I'm losing the flab slowly, but surely. :)]
