  • While being home for the holidays from WA, my husband and I decided we HAD to go check out Odysea. We have been to countless renowned aquariums all over (including on Hawaii) and though many offer the same things, this was the first time I felt that we truly got to experience something new and inventive! Our first impression once stepping into the aquarium really set the bar high. The fish-filled orbs hanging above us were awe-inspiring! And we thought it was a joke when the ticket checker told us to visit the restrooms but I am happy we went in anyways because that was really a treasure! My mind could not get past how cool the carousel was. It was like attending a movie theater but the curtains get drawn back to show instead of a movie, an underwater world all for you to just sit and gaze upon. I am so glad that we made it there because truly we almost missed it. I found that the lack of signs unfortunately made getting around very hard/confusing and also because we weren't given a lot of information we thought that the carousel was a children's activity. I am super glad we went back after discovering that it wasn't because this aquarium that was talked so highly about would have just been a newer version of things we have already seen before had we not seen that highlight. We had fun at the shows featuring the penguins, the otters, and the sharks that were offered for FREE and we appreciated that the staff had lots of information and allowed us to ask what probably seemed to them like a thousand questions. I was happy to see that they had several interactive touch pools, but I do question the design of the sting ray area. It was meant to be able to stick your fingers in and touch these amazing animals but it turned out to be extremely deep for a touch pool making interacting with them near impossible to my disappointment as that is usually my favorite exhibit. With that being said, I overall was impressed and this aquarium visit made for a really great day! I believe it would be a good idea for something to do if you are visiting Arizona and I feel that everyone that lives in the state should go at least once to see it (I would probably not travel to Arizona solely for it but if you are in the area I wouldn't skip out on it) I am confident I will return in the future for another visit!
