| - Potentially a very cool spot to hear live music. Went to see an amazing one man band. Rock, Punk, with a little Soul and Gospel. Awesome music, super talented musician. Kudos for booking great talent.
Now onto the venue and crowd. First time there. Felt like I was walking into some kind of exclusive club, where we were not welcomed. Which was super strange given the laid back garage band atmosphere, and awesome portrait murals. Initially I was reminded of the Odeon in San Francisco, but was quickly reminded that no such thing exists in Charlotte, and unfortunately is longer in the Mission either.
I've never attended a live rock, punk, or any genre of music for that matter, when 90% of the crowd was completely stationary. Like statues, no movement whatsoever, even with kick ass live music. It was lame. I ordered a Corona, and the bartender gave it to me without a lime. I question whether he is even a bartender. Who drinks Corona without lime?
Anyhow, I want to give Evening Muse another try, but am wondering if it just fills up with stuffy people who don't know how to dance or have a good time. We left within an hour, after paying a cover, and with great music playing. This is the perfect example of a snobby wannabe hipster crowd pretending to like punk, and rock music, but really have no idea of what good music is (let alone punk or rock), and consequently turns an awesome live music show into a mortuary. I felt bad for the musician, Lincoln Durham, who I imagine is used to a more lively crowd . I don't know maybe he is accustomed to it, and this IS just the Charlotte "punk rock" scene.... laughable. Still searching Charlotte for a great place to hear and dance to live music, with a welcoming and diverse crowd who like to dance and have a good time.
