Ezra's Pound has two locations and I've been to both. My review here pretty much goes the same for their Dupont location. Ezra's Pound has been around for awhile, since the beginning of the indie coffee house boom here in Toronto. They've maintained a solid reputation for serving up great coffee as well as baked snacks and light meals. The cafe itself is very warm and comfortable with dark wood and red brick prevailing the place's atmosphere. Perfect place to chill out on away from the everyday rat race. Of course the recent street construction of Dundas St. W. is not doing them any favors. I only hope their business doesn't get hit too hard during the city's lackadaisy road repair.
I had the espresso here and it's quit good. A little brighter tasting take on the what can be considered the traditional Italian espresso most common. Ezra's Pound roast their own beans so freshness is assured. Worth noting is that the cafe makes a strong effort to be environmentally conscious in all areas of their business. From where they buy their coffee to how much garbage they produce, they make an effort to be environmentally responsible. Props to that. The milk and sugar they use is also organic which I appreciate.
Prices tend to be a bit on the high side compared to other indie coffee houses. The staff are friendly and quite competent. Aside from coffee they also do baked goods, which I have never tried but I hear are quite good. Ezra's Pound also operates The Espresso Institute of North America Inc. which teaches courses on everything to coffee grinding, espresso extraction to latte art and such. At $80-$100 an hour though I'll pass. The opportunity is there though for those who got the money.
Overall I recommend this place. Ignore the road construction and pop on in.
