| - Have you noticed the only good reviews are from people who just moved in?? Just wait. I lived here for almost 2 years & so relieved to be out. Initially loved it but it went so far downhill. Sad, was such a cute boutique place. Don't let the fake smiles & cute vintage building with cheaply done 'remodels' fool you.
*HUUUGE SEWER ROACHES will come into your apartment (like up your shower drain while you're showering or brushing teeth, nightmare style) & there's nothing mgmt can do bc these type of roaches live in the city pipes & sewers not the building, spraying your apartment doesn't help.
*VERY UNSAFE now. The little locking gates do nothing to keep people out. More & more homeless people hanging around the parking lot so cars get broken into & laundry stolen frequently. There's a halfway house across the vacant lot on 3rd Ave, so there's scary people walking around the building at night or sleeping near the cars. Neighbor's unit got broken into by drunk people twice, mine got broken into once even upstairs.
*OVERPRICED, SKETCHY & DIRTY. Aura raised rates far higher than everything comparable in the area so now desperate to fill all the resulting vacancies they started letting all kinds of shady people in. It started getting disgusting & downright ridiculous. Really loud and sketchy at night, cops always showing up, helicopter with searchlight constantly overhead, domestic violence disputes, broken bottles, cigarettes, loud parties & dog pee/poop in the stairways (walkways are filthy NEVER got cleaned the whole time I lived there even after reporting finding BLOOD on the stairs). Even accidentally walked in on people having sex in the little fitness center when I just wanted to go work out. You'll really feel like you can't touch anything our leave your home at night it's very uncomfortable. The pool is basically the only thing they clean.
*YOU FOOT THE BILL FOR PLUMBING ISSUES. The old pipes are constantly breaking & flooding, you'll see the Alliance plumbing van there weekly. Plus every time they repair they have to flush the pipes & refill them, it's a TON of water. Tenants divvy up the water bill & there's no compensation it's just part of living at an old building, so you pay a lot for water.
*STOLEN MAIL. Your mail/packages will get stolen if left outside or delivered to wrong unit.
*GET IN LINE TO WAIT FOR DIRTY COMMUNITY LAUNDRY. Only 2 machines for a whole building so get in line to do laundry & expect neighbors to take your laundry out of machines. Also machines never get cleaned so they are musty & hairy from all your neighbors' dog beds, shoes, or you name it.
*BAAAD MANAGEMENT. Shelton-Cook is C-Class for a reason. They keep firing and switching around incompetent staff & the latest manager Samantha will be nice to your face but is an unprofessional nightmare. You'll most often find her hiding around the corner of the office smoking, gossiping & on her phone. Don't expect any humanity, everything is very much by 'policy' and they use the excuse of Fair Housing where it doesn't apply, so they don't have to think or put in any effort. If on-site staff can't help you, Corporate is all but nonexistent and completely unresponsive. The only saving grace is the maintenance guy, Daniel. He's awesome.
*YOU WILL BE TREATED TERRIBLY AT MOVE OUT! No matter if you're a good tenant who pays rent on time and follows the rules or not. They do not care. You must give 2 months notice to move out (which they do intentionally to make planning a move somewhere else excessively difficult) and they will NOT work with you under any circumstances even if they say they will. Don't have to so they won't. If you move out early they'll intentionally keep your unit vacant either out of laziness or since they have so many vacancies, so they can just charge you the full 60 days. You will have to insist on your move-out inspection or you won't get it, they'll just surprise you with a bill later. You also have to chase them down for your deposit refund/move-out statement since it gets "lost in the mail". And if you owe money after moving out, they WILL NOT do a payment plan with you, they'll send you straight to collections and ruin your credit/rental history plus charge a $500 "admin fee" which is not even in the lease.
