| - We went on Saturday evening for dinner. We were seated quickly and orders were taken in timely manner.
We ordered our usual for anytime we visit a Thai restaurant for the first time. We ordered Tom Ka hot pot, pad thai and panang curry.
First: The water. They have a carafe filled on table so you can refill your own water. Great idea for someone who drinks a lot but it's not kept cold and they won't refill your ice. The hot pot was good but not lit. Where's my fire? They added onion, which is not traditional, but okay. Not much root or leaves either. The pad thai was very sweet and no heat. They didn't even ask if I'd like it spicy or not. It's more common that they will ask how hot you want your dish but not at Nunthaporn. It was still good, just a little too sweet for my taste and not nearly enough heat. The panang curry was good but nothing special. Again, not much heat. They could have added more fish sauce to as the coconut was way too prominent. Basically, good food but I've had better.
My main problem comes from the service. The wait staff wasn't attentive and that's fine. At least it didn't take long for the food to come out. But it was how they handled the bill. My total was just over $28 and I had a gift card for $25. We paid with the gift card and advised I will pay the rest and tip on my debit card. The manager came by our table with the waitress and advised me I couldn't pay using my card because it was under $5. What?!? With the tip, it would have been definitely over $5 and not only that, it wasn't like my bill was $3. My bill was $28 so it shouldn't have mattered. It wasn't even that I was trying to pay with 2 different debit cards, just one. Either way, they would occur a fee for card usage. I argued the point with the manager but they didn't care. I don't carry cash and advised them they would have to use the card and they refused. Luckily, I had a $10 gift card to Main St. (accepted at any business on Main St) so I had to use the $10 card and put the rest on the gift card, leaving a small balance on the gift card. Of course I had no cash and they wouldn't let me tip with the gift card so I had no way to tip them. I guess they didn't want to be tipped.
I'll probably give the remaining gift card away as I don't plan on returning. Their food was nothing special and there are other Thai restaurants in the valley that are better.
