| - Mildly shocked that this place ranks No. 2 (at the time of me writing this review) for Pittsburgh. Yes, it's definitely an adorable little cafe in Point Breeze. Yes, the food is pretty good. And yes, the service is friendly. But it wasn't really some "earth shattering" experience or anything. But then again, I've felt that way about other places before too and I came back again and again and everything was consistently good so who knows. If I lived in Pittsburgh I might return here again and again, but since I now live in STL, I probably won't be back anytime soon mostly due to distance. I recommended the place to my mom, though, who would probably enjoy the place.
I had the P.E.I. Mussels. They weren't bad but they weren't amazing either. Just "good" ... my BF had a burger. He was pissed because the burgers here cost quite a bit of $ for a burger and they don't even come with fries! You have to pay extra for a separate order of fries, though I heard they were very good. I am almost a little upset now that I didn't at least try them, but I had more than enough food to eat. He subbed the coleslaw which DOES come with the burger for a salad which I ended up eating. It was unremarkable. The slaw was mostly vinegar based from what our server told us which led him to get the salad instead. Sean H. hated vinegar based slaw....he prefers it creamy. I got the garlic white wine shallot sauce for the mussels which seemed lacking. It needed more lemon juice! (Assuming it had any to begin with.) In retrospect I should have asked for a lemon, but didn't. The lemon would have really made it good.
Service was really good, and everyone was friendly. It was pretty busy around lunch time but we did not have to wait long at all for a table. More of a 3.5 star experience than anything but I decided to round up instead of rounding down....
