  • Phoenix is literally littered with restaurants. With a pizza places opening up on every bloody corner saturating the market with tomato sauce and charred crusts, to concept restaurants taking over the world, there seems to be a new "hang out" brewery or up and coming hot spot on every corner. I have been coming to Phoenix now for 6 years back and forth and have tried a multitude of the culinary prowess here in the land of cactus and hipsters mixed with pretentious yoga moms who talk incessantly about their new diets and fired trainers. It seems unlikely that the boom is ever going to end. Frankly its a bit daunting and pretty stinkin hard to keep up with them all opening and closing. But......it is good to know that there are a few places that seem to never loose their food edge. I apparently stumbled on one today. Vovomeena is a quaint, ugh...what a stupid word quaint, little gem of of 7th Ave and McDowell tucked behind some of the more annoying chain spots that surround it. You have to get a menu first and decide what you want before you sit down, which I think is brilliant as it only makes me want to punch the jerk faces in the nostrils when they walk into a small spot with their whole family and their stupid dog in a bag and plop down just to "save" their seat. You people deserve to wait. You are no more important than the people who are going along with the restaurants rules and regs to keep the flow. Once you decide off their beautifully minimal menu of about 12 or so items you make you way to the counter, order, grab your number and THEN sit down. The service is also minimal. I happen to like that. They take your order, bring you your food and leave you the hell alone. They ask if you need anything else and go away. You are left to get your own coffee and water, which is right around the corner basically from anywhere you are sitting, unless on the patio. Again I like that. It cuts down on all the hoopla and stupid speak which, truthfully, unless you are obsessed with yourself, you don't really want to talk about anyway ESPECIALLY AT BREAKFAST!! I drank to much last night and I want food, good food and coffee and some bloody peace and quiet, so thank you staff. Not to say they lack anything as they will hop right to if you do, but you are pretty much left to fend. I ordered the waffle and pork chop with poached eggs and a perfectly crisp beignet plopped right on top. Whoa doggy it was delicious, every last bite, because I destroyed it like fat kid at Christmas. I wanted to high five the cooks but they were busy so I gave a verbal "brilliant" to the one who was eyeballing me to see if I liked his food. Seriously people this place is really quality. My normal haunt is Matt's Big Breakfast or Dicks Hideaway but I have officially got a new fave in the valley. Thank you FOH Staff and Kitchen of Vovomeena, I will be back to try the rest of the menu and bring my appetite for more of you yummy goodness. Cheers.
