When I first moved downtown to the Bloorcourt Village area I was ecstatic to go to this family owned, local food market instead of my usual North York Dominion (now, Metro). There is something special about local produce and food shops. Maybe it's because everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came (sorry) but Bloorcourt Market is hands down a local fave.
The prices are by no means extraordinarily better than other grocers, but their produce is always fresh and the family who own it are incredibly kind and sincere. They always ask about you and they actually remember you. They are a true staple of the community.
A few months ago I learned to my grave sadness that they were closing their doors due to a rent dispute with the stores owner after over 10 years in business there.
Well, we wouldn't have it! Community members poured their hearts out to the store operators begging for them to stay and shunned the landlord for his cruel, heartless ways. What would be the fate of our beloved local market?
Happily, they reopened just a few doors down (next to Shopper's between Delaware and Dovercourt) into a smaller, but much more vibrant and bright store. Bloorcourt Market is great for produce (local always on the North American fruits and veggies) and all your every-day grocery needs!
