  • Is Ikea the new COMCAST? 10/28/2014, Employee 10040367. I chose a Tuesday thinking it would be the one day that Ikea was not swamped with crowds. I was right ... except I did not realize that Ikea was also absent of staff help and staff who cared. I bought a BRIMNES DAY BED #50269171 originally wanting it in white, but decided on black. (Would have bought a coordinating nightstand if it was available.) Had to walk back and ask four times about the bed once I had started to buy linen. What was the mattress size and what linen fitted the bed when the two mattresses were used? No Ikea staff knew!!! How is that possible? The linen staff person looked by BRIMNES on her PC ... which she seemed to have never heard off ... but could not figure out which was the BRIMNES daybed. So I walked back upstairs and asked again. At checkout, there are 24 cashier stations and only 2 were open. The lines backed up through the warehouse, probably 30 people long each. Customers with small items simply put them down and walked out. When I got to pay I asked why there were so few cashier posts open. I received an abrupt and unfriendly response that it was a big store and they were busy. When I realized I had waited this long and then had forgotten to include the mattresses and asked for help, the cashier's rude response was "this is a self-service store. I can't help." Really??? No empathy, no advise, no "let me put your items aside, go get your items and come back to the front of the line." She didn't give a damn even when I told her that her customer service rapport was rude she kept up the rudeness. I suggested that the next time Ikea offered classes on dealing with customers that she seriously needed to attend. I did go get my mattresses and a customer who had watched this whole interaction let me come before her in empathy. Everyone in line was frustrated. When I exited and asked an Ikea staff where I could complain, she suggested the "Feedback" box and took my verbal complaint by saying, " huh-hu, huh-hu, huh-hu ... have a nice day." Code for "I just tuned you out and I really don't give a damn. We don't need happy customers." Three hours in Ikea to make an hour purchase. I have friends who swear they will never shop at Ikea again, friends who joke about what a nightmare shopping at Ikea is. The new zeitgeist is that Ikea shopping is code for root canal. This is okay with Ikea? Very, very disappointed that Ikea has become Comcast.
