  • "YES! I DONT HAVE TO DRIVE OUT TO WEST MIFFLIN ANYMORE!" - Me and every other Planet Fitness member south of the city seeing that they opened a location in the South Hills. This is a fact. I stopped in for the first time tonight. The gym just opened after the new year, I believe, so it's brand new. There's still some construction equipment inside and in the parking lot that I expect will be cleared out in the next week or two. Its definitely on the small side, especially to me, comparing it to the WM location. They fit *a lot* of stuff in, but it did feel cramped and while there was no wait for the cardio machines, they are the fullest I've ever seen at a PF location. It was around 8:30 on a Tuesday night, but again, they just opened. I imagine this location will be in very high demand, so I don't ever expect to see it empty. ETA: On Saturday and last night, every. single. treadmill. was taken. The locker room was nice and well lit, but again, very small. You will get cozy with other patrons. The shower was great. Lockers are only half sizes except for 3. Those 3 people will be very lucky. Its got all the PF pros: Clean Lots of machines, especially cardio PE at PF (their gym style fitness classes) Black card perks of unlimited tanning, unlimited massage chairs and UNLIMITED HYDRO-MASSAGE BEDS. Taking the distance to my home out of the equation, this alone makes it my preferred location. The size isn't great. The locker rooms are small, the equipment feels a little squeezed in but hey-if that's what it takes to get a PF so close to me, I'll take it. On the weight machines, there are only 2-3 of each and I only saw one calf extension. The thing that bugs me the most is the layout of the weight machines. They aren't really organized by muscle group so unless you're doing a full circuit, you'll be going back and forth a bunch. Oh! And I really hope the staff instructs people on how to use the 30 minute circuit. Without fail, there are always people sitting at the machines. In such a small location, it really makes a difference. I don't know that anyone can ever actually use the circuit as intended. All in all, a very welcome addition to Castle Shannon.
