| - Outside of signing loan papers or robbing it, when was the last time that you ventured into a bank branch? With bank machines found more frequently than pay phones, and internet banking making it so that it becomes more of a pain to pay bills via phone than using a mouse, the need to go to a branch is fast becoming as outmoded as hard currency itself.
When my new credit card arrived, it came equipped with one of those security chips in them that necessitated my getting a PIN for it. When I called up hoping that this was an over-the-phone thing if not a task that could be covered on the internet, I was told that I had to go to my home branch to sort this out. My home branch is in Gananoque (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/cibc-gananoque). I've not moved it since I moved to Toronto as I didn't really feel the need. As for driving back to Gananoque for the sake of a four number code, I thought better of it. I was told that I could go to any branch and once I showed them my ID, all would be good. Well, this was the first place I happened on.
Because of its location, I can understand why they have so many bank machines available and a large teller space. I went in at mid-day to get my credit card sorted out and they took care of me instantly. There was no wait, no line-up, just in, up to the counter, and talk to a teller. The teller got me sorted out at the bank machine with my PIN in less than five minutes and I was on my way. Wow. That's even faster than the internet.
