  • What a shame!!! My girlfriend and I really kinda liked this place. The bar reminded me of lounges back home and the food was good and well priced. So we brought my good friend along last night so that he could enjoy it too. We'd talked about taking him here for awhile and seeing as we'd just watched our beloved Cubbies make it to the series it seemed like a nice atmosphere for dinner. Problem is...my friend is 95% blind. Last year we went to Guide Dogs of the Desert in Palm Springs after a many year wait to get his trained service dog Nike. Nike had undergone about 30 months of training to be a guide dog and has accompanied my friend nightly for the past 18 months to many many restaurants and other establishments. Until Uncle Sals last night. We were swiftly told that Nike was not welcome in the large round bar area. Naturally we presumed that this employee was not aware of the Americans with Disabilities Act and didn't realize that service animals and their owners cannot be discriminated against. We hadn't come to Uncle Sals to sit outside or elsewhere. We wanted to enjoy the lounge and order dinner there. But the bartender was quick to acknowledge this "rule" and wouldn't serve us despite our insistance that this was not appropriate. We were so shocked. And when they out and out refused service, my blind friend called the police who arrived shortly thereafter. And they were amazing. Long and short is that the restaurant has the right to refuse service for any reason in Arizona. It could be because you're black or gay or have long hair or maybe because you're straight. Any reason at all. And they were choosing to refuse us service at their bar area under the guise that it was because of this well behaved and trained service animal. A dog who had the harness on and was working. An English Black Lab who guided my friend in and then laid by his side as he is trained to do without making a peep. A well trained working service animal who was on the job. Working harder than the guys behind the bar or the hostess at the door. Shame on you guys. I've spent good money there in the past and have told too many people about your restaurant. But not nearly as many as I will now. The police were great. They all but acknowledged that you guys were dicks. They laughed with us and spent a good 15 minutes just basically being "good guys" and suggested with a wink that Carlsbad Cavern is a much better place for dinner anyways. They knew that we were right and you guys were creeps. Goodbye Uncle Sal. You don't deserve my business.
