| - Extremely disappointed with fees and communication of those fees.
Takeaways: decent facility and equipment, standard (disappointing) nonsense when dealing with gym memberships. Was hoping for better, won't be back.
My experience:
I stopped by to sign up for their 7 day trial and check out the gym. As I was only home for the holidays and scoping out potential gyms to join after graduation, this sounded like the perfect opportunity to do some recon. The way it was presented, I was under the impression that I needed to join in order to get the 7-day trial. As luck would have it, this one time fee was only $1 as opposed to the typical $99 rate. I left the consult with the perception that I could cancel anytime before the first month of membership and card charge without any consequences. Poor communication resulted in being charged for a month's membership (which is of no use to me) at $45 and told that there was nothing that could be done about it. This might not seem like much to some folks, but when you're a student, it can be a significant, unexpected expense. My view of the gym has gone from an initially positive impression to one of annoyance and irritation. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience.
Long story short, if you really are only interested in the 7-day trial, make that absolutely, unwaveringly clear. If you are starting to sound like a robot that can only say "I want the 7-day trial," you've got it right. If you want the full details, you'll need to interrupt a staff member's spiel to have them slow down and explicitly state fees and dates of charge (what you should expect and when)
Rates:
- Monthly fees are between $45-65 (the base is $45). I might be off on the higher "premium" membership fee because I'm going off of memory.
- Group classes are extra charges on top of the monthly fees, you'll have to go in and talk to staff to determine actual rates - I couldn't get an answer over the phone.
- Join fees are normally $99, but they will have some periods where the join fee is $1.
- Cancellation fee is $250 if you do not cancel within 14 days of signing the paperwork. One of the exceptions is if you move more than 30 miles away from your home gym. In this case, you'll need proof of relocation (driver's license, utility bill with your name and address).
Hope this helps a Yelper in the future.
