  • Duo Patisserie brings that upscale pastry/dessert shop experience normally found in central Toronto (eg. Bobbette and Belle, Nadege) to York Region. In fact, it's kind of like a "Chinese Nadege"... just with fewer treats served... and less of that magenta-crazy, manly-brain-crash-inducing atmosphere (it's more white/neutral-toned/minimal-basic here, not exactly indie coffee house relaxing, but more like your usual suburban Asian dessert house welcoming). However it comes with downtown-like pricing, which I guess serves to pay for the whitey-white modern plates and the gold flakes that garnishes some of their food. I have to bloody hell admit overall, I quite like it. If you are expecting old-school familiar Asian bakery staples, get the hell out. Most of their stuff are western/French-based, be it the croissants or tarts or whatever the hell else is available to delight you when you walk in. There is great delicate care and attention to detail in making their beautiful-looking goods. Maybe too much. Staff were absolutely pleasant, and there's a good amount of seats for sit-ins. There is a great spectrum of different tastes in many of their goods. Imma lemon tart whore, so imma try their lemon tart. It is one of the most refreshing lemon tarts I have ever had, certainly a great leap from the supermarket variety stuff. Not so tart (is this even making sense?), not so sweet, but had an unexpected dill-like hint that I found interesting. Delicate and quirky, to say the least. I also tried a matcha latte, and gee whiz was it heavy on the matcha powder. For their drinks they use coffee supplied by Pilot Coffee Roasters (whaddup Leslieville?). On my visit they only had macarons in oolong flavour, so imma grab that. The hint of tea is there, imma end with that. {YRT/VIVA: Try the Purple/Pink line to East Beaver Creek. It's the first lights on Hwy 7 west of the 404, tucked in an unassuming typical-of-the-area commercial strip behind the Hilton Garden Inn.}
