| - Last Monday (05/08/17), I had an oil change at Big O Tires. My car started making a strange rumbling noise the very next day. The sound was emanating from the hood of the car, so I was worried it might be related to my engine. I waited a couple of days, but the sound didn't go away, so I called Big O Tires on Friday (05/12/17) and asked if I could bring the car in. The customer service representative said I could just bring the car in. I had to work that afternoon, so the rep said I could bring the car in at any time to get it looked at.
Today, on my day off today (05/15/17), I went to bring in my car. I had to drop some paperwork at work in the afternoon, but I had a few hours before I needed to do that, so I decided I'd bring the car in and let them look at it while I ran my errand.
After he took my key, he said someone would take a look at my car. I asked him what was the problem with my car when they did the check up. When he looked at when I did my oil change and saw my prior customer history, he started complaining that I only did work in 2016 and only a couple of oil changes, sounding unhappy that I didn't spend a lot of money in his shop.
Instead of discussing the issue I was having with the car, he instead kept on trying to convince me to have other work done. In fact, when I finally told him that I just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong because I was concerned with the strange noises.
I then asked him to take a look at the car while I ran my errand. His attitude completely changed when he heard that I was going to do an errand and not continue listening to his sales pitch. He told me not to leave the car behind and just come back when I was done with my errand. He said he was too busy to work on the car at that moment. I looked around and saw one lady in the waiting room.
This was after nearly 30 minutes of listening to him trying to get me to agree to work on the car unrelated to the current problem.
I was very upset after wasting that much time just trying to make sure the car was checked out. I tolerated his sales pitch, his pushiness, his attitude, because I was extremely worried that something would happen to my car while I was driving.
I then asked who the owner is, and he said the owner isn't there. I then asked him who was the store manager, and he said he was. I asked for his name, and he just pointed to a sign on the wall and said "my name is right there". I read the store manager's name on the sign: Peter Maharas
His attitude at this point was beyond rude. He was downright churlish and boorish. I was literally stunned by this complete transformation. Although he was overbearing before, this sudden mood change was unsettling. I told him that I didn't want him looking at the car any longer. He responded that his shop would refuse me service.
I felt bullied, powerless, demoralized, and objectified as nothing but a potential profit. The experience ruined my day. How does a store manager treat customers so appallingly and be so blatantly motivated by nothing but profit?
I strongly recommend that others avoid Peter Maharas, his attitude, his greed, and instead find a shop where they are actually concerned with preventing a potential accident or breakdown on the freeway.
