| - While I know that not everyone is a history buff, and I don't claim to be one. However, there are certain aspects of US history and beyond that absolutely fascinate me. The history of the Titanic is one thing in particular that has had me interested since I was a kid.
This exhibit is ready to begin its 3rd year of its 10 year run at the Luxor. The ticket sales booth is up the escalator right off the main lobby. At 10:25ish the line was somewhat long. When we came out the line was about 75 people deep. While the staff working the counter were kind, their efficiency wasn't exactly ideal.
ATTN EDUCATORS: Tuesdays are your day! Because my dad, sister and I are all educators, we got in for free. The regular admission is $25-28. Not only did we get our tickets for free, you got to pick which exhibit you wanted. The Titanic exhibit is located next to the body exhibit. You also have the option of going to both.
No photography inside the exhibit, but I managed to get a few shots of the exterior. Upon going inside you get an info card of a real Titanic passenger. Much like the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, you check to see if your passenger survived the sinking at the end of the tour. Midway through there is a dead on replica of the grand staircase and chandelier that was in the 1st class area of the ship. A professional photographer is there for taking your picture. The pictures are available for purchase in the gift shop located at the end of the tour.
Some items on display: luggage, dishes and serving pieces, tools, hardware, section of the ship weighing 15 tons, port hole with portions of glass still in place, spectacles
One of the coolest parts was this giant "ice sculpture" that was indented with a handprint. You place your hand in the imprint and the temperature is comparable to what the temperature would have been in the Atlantic on that dreadful night. Apparently most people didn't die from drowning, but of hyperthermia.
Much like Disneyland, the exhibit dumps you out in the gift shop. They have some cool items for purchase. Everything was reasonably priced and I picked up dishes with the white star line logo in the middle. It took about 45 minutes to conservatively tour the exhibit. A winner!
