  • I had passed by this bar several times and decided to stop in today. It was a little after 1:00 pm and there was one other couple in the bar besides me. The bartender introduced herself as Christy (not sure if that's the right spelling) and took my drink order. Being a diabetic, I don't drink alcohol anymore but I do like non-alcoholic beers. After searching the coolers for a few minutes, Christy said, "I guess we don't have any." I asked if she had any other non-alcoholic beers and she said, "I don't know." She searched a few more minutes and found a couple of regular beers that she thought were NA then she stumbled across a St. Pauli Girl NA and asked me, "Is this non-alcoholic?" I told her it was and she opened it for me. This was red flag #1. Any bartender worth their salt will know what they have in stock and where it is located. As I drank my beverage, I noticed that Christy was not checking on the couple on the other side of the bar or on me. She mainly stared at the POS screen. The couple across the bar left and Christy went back to staring at the screen for a bit longer then she started to do a bit of cleaning again not bothering to either check on me or engage me in conversation. That was red flag #2. A good bartender makes sure that their customers are taken care of and made to feel welcome, not like they are an imposition. As soon as I finished my drink, I paid my tab and left. My guess is that this is one of Christy's first times behind a bar and that she hasn't been properly trained. I love a good dive bar, but if Christy is an example of the rest of the staff I'll not try it on a different day or shift. This might not bother some customers, but as a former bar owner I have no tolerance for incompetence behind the bar.
