  • This used to be a very good mall, but since it was sold to a new operating company, it has gone downhill fast, precipitated by a shooting that occurred there December 24, 2015. Since then, Northlake, once billed as an upscale enclave for the nearby Lake Norman suburbs, has slowly deteriorated. It's commonly speculated that the mall is becoming a venue in an ongoing turf war between rival gangs which resulted in two shootings in the past year and several scares. The common consensus seems to be that the once upscale clientele of Lake Norman has abandoned this mall for either Concord Mills, Southpark, Birkdale Village, or the new Charlotte Premium Outlets on the SW side of town. With multiple options, not including online, it's only a matter of time before Northlake becomes the new Eastland, if it hasn't already.
