  • My husband was in the Tahoe area when he spun out on black ice and totaled his truck. AAA sent him over to hertz for a rental. He was told there was only one vehicle available at the time and it had an empty tank, so he would have to pay for a full tank of gas. When we returned the car at another hertz location a few days later we were told that a tank of gas isn't something he should have been charged for. If it's a rental being covered by insurance, especially AAA, all the customer should be responsible for is a $50 deposit. My husband was charged the $50 deposit, a full tank of gas, and some additional charges for who even knows what - coming out to a total of $130 for what was supposed to be $50. The man working at the location where we dropped the car off was nice enough to call corporate and let them know what had happened. We didn't ask him to, he was just really upset to hear that employees at the South Lake location were charging people for things that insurance covers. My husband was also told when he originally went to pickup a vehicle that if he wanted a truck, it would be an extra $50 a day on top of the $25 rate. We learned this isn't true. What makes it all even shadier is he didn't get a print out receipt of everything, just a piece of paper the employee wrote everything down on and signed. Either this location is trying to make some extra money or they have employees that need to be re-trained.
