  • I attended a work conference here last week, and prior to coming I had read a few reviews of the hotel on Tripadvisor, and frankly was flat out nervous. Upon arriving at the hotel the front desk clerks were very friendly, check in was swift, and soon I was off to my room. The elevators are very small and if you have any claustrophobia, I suggest you take it when no one else is there. I was on the 17th floor in the corner. There only seems to be 10 rooms per floor, not a huge hotel at all. If anything I'd categorize it as almost boutique-y. When I first got into the room I noticed it was clean and bright and I had a view of all the nice downtown Montreal buildings. I had a king size room with a flat screen tv. What I thought was a closet was actually a very small kitchenette, which was basically a fridge with a stove on top. The microwave was sitting on a table just a couple feet from my bed, which was very strange. The desk area was not set up in a good spot, and both plugs nearby were already being used by a lamp and something else connected to the tv. So I had to move a 4 pronged extension plug from the microwave area over the desk. Seemed weird to me that the desk area had no available plug - where was I supposed to plug in my laptop? Also the mirror that's usually over the desk area, was over the couch so if I wanted to do make up or blow dry my hair in the room as opposed to the bathroom I couldn't. The air was easy to figure out how to turn on, but once I did that thing made such loud noise that i only put it on when I wasn't in the room. Luckily it was only in the 60s/low 70s when I went, so I didn't need it on all the time. But if it were summertime I would've switched rooms. Even my colleague who came to see the difference between our rooms agreed the air was extremely loud. Hers was not. Then there's the bathroom. Apparently a room with a king bed means you have nothing to place on the counter. There was no room for me to put my make up bag, hairdryer and brushes all on the counter, it was ridiculous. I can't even imagine how it would have been if my husband's stuff were there too. But the shower pressure was amazingly strong for a hotel. I did hear though that some of my colleagues experienced really low pressure, so clearly there are many inconsistencies at this place. My room was in the corner next to the stair well which I figured was good because there was no room right next to me. Yet like clockwork, a hotel staffer came booming down the stairs at 11:45 each night just to put something away in the hall near my room. I even said to him on the 2nd night: can you keep it down? And he said: I have to do my job! It wasn't the nicest interaction nor the response I'd expect from a staffer. Also the doors slam pretty loud just to get them closed so expect to hear that quite often if you stay here. As my rating indicates, this is a solid 3 hotel. Can't beat the amazing location, and overall it was clean and the staff was friendly. We had wifi included in our group rate, so I didn't have to pay for it, and the signal was strong almost the entire time.
