| - This is the best late night burger and sushi place in town!
Well, it's close to the only such place, which is most certainly a positive.
In any case, Delux is a relic on Yelp. It remains largely unchanged, and reviewers throughout town have doted on their signature burger since Web 1.0. And while I harbor no resentment toward this establishment, I maintain reservations. The atmosphere is stellar, and so are the hours. But I am not quite sure this could stand up to the competition.
The Delux burger consists of a medium burger patty, gruyere cheese, alleged bacon, spinach, and a special sauce, all between a thick, sweet roll. For the usually strong ingredients it boasts, it came across as rather mild to me. I don't think the beef was seasoned at all, and I had to work hard to get past how mushy it was. Correct me if need be, but the point of undercooking beef is to let its quality shine, right? This meat was woefully average. Forgettable, even.
Fries are extra. TONS extra. At $7 for a mix of regular and sweet potato, this is the most expensive order of the side I've ever made. They aren't mind-blowing, but they are good, as is the aioli they're paired with. Ooh and aaah at the little shopping cart they're served in.
In any case, you've just paid 20 bucks for a burger and fries, so you'd hope it'd absolutely blow your mind. It's just OK.
Sushi is in the 'just OK' tier as well. Just your basic tempura, but at least it'll hit the spot at 1am! The happy hour pricing is a negligible difference, by the way, so don't go waiting for it!
In the end, this is a really cool place to hang out. The hours are hella convenient. Paying for that is justified, but goodness gracious let's stop acting like this food is anything above average. It's not.
