When I was looking online to book a hotel, my first choice of Phoenix hotel was booked solid so I had to find an alternative. I used Priceline to find what I thought was a comparable hotel that met my needs (near the Valley Metro, within my budget, etc).
So I checked into the Wyndham Garden Phoenix Midtown on April 4 between the hours of 2pm and 3 pm. Giles was the person manning the front desk. When I walked up he didn't look up immediately so I waited until he acknowledged me. During the course of checking in, I mentioned that I'd had quite the time getting to Phoenix: delayed flight, the Valley Metro had delays...basically I was giving verbal clues that I needed everything to "work" the way it was supposed to.
When I got to my initial room - 524 - the maid's cart was in the hall and the maid was in the process of cleaning the room. So I went back down to the front desk and asked if I could have a room that was actually ready.
Giles made a joke out of the whole thing and actually was a bit snippy. My initial thought was that he was trying to be funny but it wasn't the time based on our earlier conversation. He never actually apologized.
So I get a new room - 618 - and I go up and the moment I enter the room I'm aware there is a scent in the air...it smelled like men's cologne. Not overpowering just a hint...I decided that since I was off to the ballgame it wouldn't be a big deal.
As others mentioned the bed was a "sleep number" bed; I'm not familiar with how it is supposed to work but when I turned on the remote it lit up but nothing else happened. The bed itself was fairly hard and a bit uncomfortable.
The TV wouldn't hold a signal. I tried watching a few channels and after a couple of minutes the screen went black and "no signal" appeared.
There seems to be a trend lately that shower/tub combos in hotels do not have skid resistant strips in the shower/tub. I slipped twice in the shower; thankfully there's a handrail or else I probably would have fallen.
The woman who ran the morning breakfast was nice and explained that they ask for a signature but there was no cost to the breakfast.
The lady who checked me out was friendly and efficient.
Overall....meh. I've had far better experiences. The value for what I paid certainly wasn't there. I will only consider the Wyndham Garden Phoenix Midtown as a last resort in the future.
