  • Slow lunch service, bad for large groups, and poor lunch menu options. Restaurants catering to the lunch crowd should all meet certain criteria: 1) Speedy service - Spice Island, on a consistent basis, is slow at preparing meals. They are slow at delivering appetizers, drinks, and entrees...and then, when the meal is all done, they aren't proactive in getting you your tab. All of these make it a less-than-ideal place for lunch. I have gone there at 11:30am, and at 1:00pm, and have experienced the same poor service. 2)conducive dining to groups (lunch crowds eat in groups, not alone). Spice Island has a long list of "excuses" when it comes to splitting checks amongst multiple people, the most ironic one being: "To improve efficiency." Would have been a little more believable if the service was good. Nothing irks me more than dining in a group of 5, and then being unable to split the check, resulting in IOU's to your co-worker that you'd rather not be indebted to. 3) A unique and discounted lunch menu. Spice Island has a limited lunch menu, and one that is only about $0.50 less than the full dinner entrees --with much smaller portions. They don't really offer any incentive to go there for lunch, when you are getting lunch-sized portions at dinner-sized prices. Overall, this place has consistently been bad. Slow service, poor menu options, relatively expensive meals, and difficult logistics make it a bad place to dine at for lunch -- and aren't offset by average quality food.
