| - Admittedly this was my first and only experience with the upscale buffet options that are littered around Vegas, but I was both pleased and disappointed in ways I hadn't expected. Since there are so many aspects to this buffet, I'm just going to go over what I was happy with and what I would pass on if I were to go again.
First off, the good stuff. The crab legs were great. I opted for the cold to avoid the larger, slower line that was held up for the hot legs. I also found this gave me more opportunity to be picky about which legs I wanted, versus having to take a huge pile of them to keep the line moving. The crab legs were also great, as were the oyster & shrimp cocktail shooters. It was all fresh and the pre-cracked shells were done well, making meat extraction easy.
Also good were the (extremely) buttery mashed potatoes and the prime rib. The quality of the cuts seemed to vary a lot from what I could tell - mine was pretty mediocre, overcooked and really fatty, but someone else I was with had a beautiful, all pink, rare cut that was as close to a perfect cut as I've ever seen. It may be worth scoping out where they in the cut of meat before hopping in that line. I'd also start off with a healthy addition of pepper and salt to the meats as they seemed under-seasoned.
On the other hand, the jumbo shrimp and oysters (located by the Asian food, not the rest of the seafood) were probably some of the most bland pieces I've ever tasted. Shrimp needed a lot of sauce to make each bite worth it, and the oysters tasted like they were boiled - no saltiness, no flavor, just watery and gooey.
While I was excited about the huge bowl of bone marrow, it was really hard to eat more than a little since I realized it was impossible to find any pieces of bread to spread it on to dilute the richness. I briefly considered the corn bread muffins, french fries, or slices of pizza to do the trick, but at that point I had already had so much rich food I just passed. It definitely needed a fair share of salt added as well.
So with the entrees being 50-50 as far as good/bad, I was optimistic that the deserts would be more reliable, and they were! I somehow managed to fill another whole plate with bites that were all great, such as the pumpkin creme brulee, thai iced tea with boba, sesame seed gelator, green tea and sesame seed (cake?) bite, guava shooter, green tea chocolate coated strawberry, etc. etc.
Knowing now what some of the best dishes were, I think I'd only feel compelled to return if I was really going to be dedicated to eating a purely seafood dinner with a large desert finish. However, it was a neat experience, if not overwhelming, with all of the options available. I avoided most foods I could regularly have anywhere else, but I am sure the sliders, fried chicken, pizza, etc. are all delicious. They're just not on my radar for a pricey buffet!
