$2 to marvel at this $10 million, 44 piece art installation is a steal! Oh and it also happens to be a whimsical, fully functional carousel in the heart of downtown Markham. Kids of all ages should take a trip out to see this ingenious use of recycled parts transformed into eye-catching works of art.
We arrived at a perfect time (Monday around 2:30 pm) when my hubby and I were the only ones there. We were warmly greeted by the operator and security guard. They were awesome and let me take my time photographing the different sculptures (you need a permit to use a regular camera but not a camera phone).
Jim, the lovely operator who has actually met the artist, was a wealth of information and gave me fascinating tidbits about the different pieces (Did you know Superman is Canadian?). Since no one else was around, he offered to give me a personal tour. He is really passionate about the carousal and his job; his enthusiasm is contagious.
I took tons of pictures just so I could pore over all the wonderful details of this masterpiece. Shovels as ears, wheels as noses, bolts as fingers and toes, a baseball glove as a cocks comb.....what hidden objects can you find?
