| - Had a really great time at The Old Fashioned while passing through town. The wait for a party of 3 was about 45 minutes on a Monday, but they have an excellent system that texts you when your table is ready, and have two full bars you can order from while you wait.
There are 50 different Wisconsin-brewed beers on tap to choose from, as well as many more in bottles. Even though it was busy, the bartender was very attentive and had great beer suggestions.
When it came time to sit down, we ordered a pitcher of a regionally-brewed Mexican style beer (on special for $11!), a plate of fried cheese curds with a horseradish dipping sauce, and the wurst plate - three different sausages made with Wisconsin beer, served with two delicious mustards, sauerkraut, pickled green beans, and fresh-out-of-the-oven dark bread. The curds were tasty as expected, but the sausages, bread and mustards stole the show. Each sausage was perfectly cooked and well complimented by the sauerkraut and pickled beans.
For entrees, we all ordered burgers. The Monday special was two classic cheeseburgers - Wisconsin cheddar, onions, mayo, pickle, and lettuce - for $8.95. Two of us did that, and our third party ordered the spicy burger with jalapeno cheese. The burgers were flavorful and juicy (cooked medium to medium-rare) and the cheese is not to be beat.
Our whole bill, excluding the beers while waiting for our table, was just under $55. On the value scale, The Old Fashioned ranks near the top. I'll be back my next time through Wisconsin.
