| - Let's start with the good:
The atmosphere. Although I expected this place to be MUCH bigger, I really dug the decor. I think it was really nice, although not as much of a "pub" setting, and really not as casual as I imagined.
The beer/wine/cocktail selection is offered on an iPad, so that is pretty cool. I am a beer drinker, so it was great to have the entire collection available right at your fingertips, with as much (or little) information as you would like about the beer. They also have their very own Cicerone, which is the beer equivalent of a Sommelier, which is pretty damn cool. I didn't speak to said Cicerone, but I am sure he is awesome. However, I was not impressed by their current draft selection, or the prices. But alas, this is the Las Vegas Strip, and affordability may be asking too much. I ended up ordering the Tenaya Creek Oktoberfest, so it is definitely nice to see them supporting a local brewery.
The poutine was amazing. I've seen some complaints about the price ($10), however I don't think that is too much. It is a pile of french fries, with cheese curds, duck confit and bordelaise sauce (apparently the Public House take on "gravy"). It is really salty, so beware. Great with beer. I would definitely come back for this alone.
The devils on horseback were also delicious. These are bleu cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped dates. The bleu cheese is REALLY strong (which is A-OK in my book), so some people may be caught off guard with this. But anything with bacon is pretty amazing anyway you do it, in my opinion. :)
Now the bad (Sorry!):
Although it was a Monday night, and we arrived around 6:00pm, the lounge area was full. The hostess asked if we would be having dinner or just appetizers. We said we were unsure, but were in a hurry and would probably just have appetizers. She told us it was open seating in the lounge and to seat ourselves. We turned around, to where there were obviously no seats and looked back at her, dumbfounded. Luckily, the Manager happened to be standing next to her and told her to seat us in the EMPTY dining room. She asked if we prefered a table or booth and we said booth. She then said that all of the booths were reserved. Um, OK....then why did you ask? Anyhow, as I mentioned, we were in a bit of a hurry. She led us to a small table for 2. Otherwise, she was nice.
In addition to the items above, we also ordered the foie gras. I was not a fan, and normally I LOVE foie gras. I can't say what it is I didn't like about it....it seemed undercooked or just not as good as any that I've had before. I would not order it again.
The service was good, but we had 1 server approach us, take our order, and then a few minutes later another server approached us and told us that Sarah had "gone home because it was so slow," and that he would be taking over. So, "where were we at?" Obviously our server told him nothing, like the fact that we had already ordered, etc. It was kind of weird. But he was very attentive and nice.
Overall, I liked Public House. It didn't totally live up to my expectations. I would definitely go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make a trip there.
