  • *UPDATED* I wish I could leave a glowing review. Unfortunately, I can't. Our experience wasn't all bad, but for what we paid for two 90 minute massages, we're both disappointed. Let me just start by saying that I can't speak much for my husband's experience. He seemed fine with the massage he received, but mentioned that his therapist's hands were "shakey" and she trembled throughout the entire massage, which he said was a bit distracting. My experience was mediocre at best. I was paired with a therapist who seemed very knowledgeable and capable of helping me alleviate some pain and work through a few issues I was having, but once the massage got started it just kind of went downhill. To begin with, no massage therapist should ever spend that much time talking about themselves. Ever. That time is not about telling stories you think the client can relate to, it's about focusing on what you're doing. I don't mind a little chit chat, but this was really excessive. She also seemed really eager to push her knowledge on me about things that I told her I was already informed about, such as taking epsom salt baths and drinking plenty of water afterward. I had specifically asked that she focus on my LEFT shoulder and back area, along with spending some extra time on my feet. Once the massage got started, she spent far too long working my RIGHT shoulder and back, only to barely work my left side at all. The pressure started out perfect, but only on my back. Once she got to my legs and feet, it was like she was barely touching me and she didn't do extra work on my feet at all. She finished with a light neck massage that didn't really work anything out, did a couple stretches, and we were done. The next day, my left shoulder didn't feel any better and my right shoulder was so sore I could barely move. Afterward, I inquired about kinesio-taping and my therapist told me she would be in touch the following day with details, and I haven't heard a word from her or anyone about it. Although, I'm starting to think that's for the best. I didn't say anything during my massage or afterward because it was simply not worth it. That day had been reserved for relaxation and peace for me and my husband, and I didn't want to spend it complaining. But now it's been 5 days and my right shoulder is still sore from being overworked and the more I think about, the more annoyed I get. It's annoying to think we spent that much money and didn't receive anything close to what we paid for. The positives: it was a great atmosphere. The spa itself was cozy and relaxing. The room temperature was nice and the music in my room was great. I do believe my therapist is a good one, but I think her skill dissipated very quickly in the session. Had she not talked so much, kept the pressure consistent, and worked on the areas I requested, then I'm sure her technique would have been perfect for my liking. In the end, we may give Serenity Now another try, but will most likely chose different therapists if we do return. It's still up in the air for now. *update* I was contacted by the owner of Serenity Now after leaving this review. Danielle was kind, professional, and understanding enough to rectify the situation far beyond my expectations. I appreciate her willingness to help and her ability to put a positive spin on what was originally a 2 star review. My husband and I will pay another visit in the future and try our luck with different therapists. Thank you, Danielle.
