There's not too much mystery as to what the Hofbrauhaus is at this point: huge, rambunctious beer hall with German and Not-German-At-All food offerings. So I'll just offer a couple of thoughts to optimize your 'Haus experience:
1. Outdoor seating is great on warm days/nights. So what if the Mon River is often sludge brown? I still get mad at how criminally undeveloped Pittsburgh's riverfront is. This is one of precious few spots to actually hang out by the water and I'm a fan.
2. The Weizen is legitimately great. For beers like this, freshness is everything, so getting bottle versions from Germany definitely lose something on the trip over. And for whatever reason American microbreweries haven't really mastered this style. So this is a legit German recipe and it's fresh. Short of going to Munich it's hard to get better.
3. Definitely recommend the monthly keg tappings. Fun time and you get to try out the new offering for free in addition to seeing how they used to do kegs in the olden days.
